Stop Boiling... Start Cooling: The Art of Emotional Control in Life & Decisions
A Humble Appeal to Freeze Life's Lessons and Master the Power of Emotional Calm
"When you are in the sway of emotions, intelligence doesn't work. And to make good decisions, intelligence is required."
My Dear Loved Ones,
My life has taught me life. My every student and colleague has been my teacher. I want to freeze my understanding and comprehension of my life through words. I firmly believe that many lives can be born out of speeches and writings.
Hence this post you are reading—"Stop Boiling... Start Cooling"—through which I want to enter your mind and your heart. Please let me in...
This is my humble attempt as a fellow human being to make a difference to my dear team mates and loved ones through the power of writing.
The Danger of Decisions Made Under Emotional Sway
When you are in the sway of emotions, intelligence doesn't work. And to make good decisions, intelligence is required. Obviously, decisions made in the sway of emotions turn out to be regrettable decisions.
- The Impulse Resignation: If you had waited for another week, you might not have resigned. But you were so upset—so upset—so upset your emotions clouded your intelligence. Maybe your boss was wrong, but the resignation was not the only way to resolve the issue.
- The Rash Termination: If only you had waited for your emotions to settle down, you would not have sacked your best employee. Maybe your employee did err—but termination was not the only way to resolve the issue. But your emotions got the better of you.
From physical abuse to verbal admonishment to breaking things to hitting yourself—every senseless act is an act performed when the senses are not working.
Suicide itself is a decision taken in the sway of emotions. If only they had passed the transition, they would have lived on. If only there was anyone to absorb their emotions during that transition, they would have never contemplated suicide.
Actions performed and decisions taken in the sway of emotions will make your life an epic of sorrow.
Abstain from Action: Reversing Kabir
Whenever you find yourself, the other person, or the atmosphere emotional—abstain from action, abstain from decision making, and wait a little longer for your emotions to settle.
Only when you are emotional—in fact—reverse Kabir:
"What must be done now—do it later.
What must be done today—do it tomorrow.
What's the hurry? There is still a lifetime ahead..."
Boiling Water and Clear Reflection
An emotional outburst is like boiling water. One cannot see the reflection of the real image in boiling water. Only when it cools down can clarity return.
- A Sorry is a commitment not to repeat.
- Empathy is the way to create lasting bonds.
- Peace is our right. So let's not fight.
Mistakes happen. Misbehaviour should not happen. Stop Boiling... Start Cooling... See... And help others to see.
Emotional Control in India's Toughest Competitive Exams
At Anil Nair Classes (ANC), we remind aspirants that clearing high-stakes competitive examinations—such as CAT, SSC CGL Tier 1 & Tier 2, Bank PO / Clerk (SBI/IBPS), and State Police SI & Constable exams (TSLPRB & APSLPRB)—requires emotional stability under intense time pressure:
- Mastering CAT & Bank PO Speed-Tests: Panic during complex LRDI puzzles, Seating Arrangements, or Data Interpretation Caselets clouds your logical mind. Remaining cool allows you to execute short-cut techniques and option-elimination strategies effortlessly.
- Precision in SSC CGL & Police SI Exams: Solving Advanced Geometry, Algebra, Arithmetic, and Speed Math under time constraints demands emotional poise to avoid negative marking and careless calculation errors.
