The Three Lessons That Changed My Life

Three timeless lessons from a conversation with my friends that I now share with every student I mentor.

Over the last 22+ years, I have had the privilege of mentoring more than one lakh students. Whether I interact with a CAT aspirant, an SSC candidate, an entrepreneur, or a parent, one question keeps coming back:

"Sir... what if I fail?"

A few days ago, after a mentoring session, I was having a conversation with two of my business friends—Rajesh and Raghu. What started as a casual discussion turned into three powerful life lessons that I now share with every student I mentor.

Lesson 1: Your Responsibility Is Not Success. It Is Giving Your Best.

"In life, we are not obligated to succeed. We are obligated only to give our BEST."

Life doesn't ask us to guarantee success. It asks us to prepare sincerely, work honestly, and give our best every single day. When your effort is genuine, failure becomes feedback, not fear.

Lesson 2: Every Dream Has a Price.

"We go up the mountain not to see what we know, but to discover what we don't know."

Raghu then shared another profound thought:

"Cost is a sacrifice made to gain something valuable."

Everyone dreams of standing on the mountaintop. Very few are willing to climb. Whether your dream is cracking CAT, becoming an IAS Officer, securing a government job, or building a successful business, the price remains the same: Discipline. Consistency. Sacrifice. Continuous Learning.

Success is never free. It simply asks for payment in advance.

Lesson 3: The Biggest Risk Is Regret, Not Failure.

"People say I'm risking failure. I believe if I don't even try, then I'm risking failure."

Successful people don't wait until everything is perfect. They begin. Years later, we rarely regret the attempts that failed. We regret the dreams we never pursued.

Success isn't built in a single moment. It is built through thousands of disciplined decisions made when no one is watching.
